Aaroh is a conceptual Indian wine brand built around the idea that every bottle should tell a story beyond the wine itself.
Inspired by India's diverse landscapes, cultural heritage and regional identities, the project explores a different visual direction for Indian wine packaging — one that feels contemporary and expressive without losing its connection to place.
The objective was to create a distinctive brand identity that brings together regional storytelling, bold graphic design and a cohesive packaging system.
Wine packaging often relies on familiar visual codes: restrained typography, traditional crests and established European aesthetics.
For Aaroh, I wanted to explore an alternative approach.
Instead of relying on conventional luxury cues, the challenge was to create a visual identity that felt rooted in India through its landscapes and sense of place, while remaining relevant to a contemporary wine audience.
The central question was simple: how can packaging communicate the character of a place before the bottle is even opened?
The core idea behind Aaroh is to make geographical origin an integral part of the brand experience.
Rather than treating the region as secondary information on the label, the design brings it into the visual identity itself.
Each wine draws its character from a distinct Indian location, using regional landscapes and graphic interpretations to create its own visual story within a shared brand system. The result is a collection in which every bottle feels individual, yet unmistakably belongs to Aaroh.
The visual direction draws from Hampi's distinctive stone architecture and dramatic terrain, translating its sense of history into a graphic regional identity.
The design explores the relationship between the vineyard landscape and India's established wine-producing region, making the agricultural setting part of the story.
The visual language takes inspiration from the area's elevated terrain and atmospheric scenery, giving this wine a distinct sense of place.
The visual identity combines stamp-inspired graphics, poster-style compositions and regional illustration to create a system that feels both archival and contemporary.
The stamp acts as a marker of origin. The poster-inspired layout gives each label a strong graphic presence, while the illustrations establish a visual connection to the featured region.
Rather than reproducing historical design literally, the system reinterprets these influences through bold typography, deliberate composition and a restrained colour palette.
The intention was to give Aaroh a recognisable visual character without relying on predictable luxury packaging conventions.
Red, white and black form the foundation of the packaging system. The limited palette creates consistency across the collection, while regional graphics and typography provide variation.
Typography balances readability with personality. Clear information hierarchy ensures that the brand name, wine type and regional identity remain legible without losing the expressive character of the label.
The packaging was designed as a connected system rather than three unrelated labels.
Each bottle follows a consistent structure, allowing the brand to remain recognisable while regional illustrations and location-specific details give every wine its own identity.
The label combines the front and back into one continuous composition. The front establishes the brand and captures attention; the back expands the story through wine information, origin and product details.
This creates a packaging experience that moves from visual discovery to practical information without breaking the overall design language.
The secondary packaging extends Aaroh's visual identity beyond the bottle.
The same graphic language, regional references and typography carry through to the outer box, creating a cohesive experience across the primary and secondary packaging.
The objective was to make the box feel like an extension of the brand story — not simply a protective layer around the product.
Aaroh brings regional storytelling and graphic expression into a cohesive wine packaging concept.
The identity gives each wine a distinct visual personality while maintaining a shared system through typography, colour, label architecture and stamp-inspired graphics.
More than a collection of bottle labels, Aaroh explores how packaging can communicate a sense of place, build recognition across a product range and give a brand a visual language of its own.
One identity. Three regional stories. A brand built around origin.
